If you’re a food enthusiast, this experience is perfect for you! Indulge in the rich flavors of authentic Sumatran cuisine by joining a hands-on cooking class with locals. Start your day with a visit to the market, where you’ll gather fresh ingredients for your dishes. Friendly local women will welcome you into their kitchen, sharing their culinary knowledge and guiding you through the process of preparing traditional Indonesian meals. You’ll have the opportunity to cook two starters and two main dishes, choosing from a variety of local favorites such as curry, rendang, sambal, sate, and tempeh goreng. After the class, sit down and enjoy the delicious meals you’ve prepared together!

ITINERARY
After breakfast, your guide will pick you up at your guesthouse around 9:00 am and take you to a small local market. There, you will experience the atmosphere of local markets and buy the fresh ingredients needed for your cooking class.
Adijah & Panji, our couple of cooks, will then welcome you to their home, in their pretty little traditional house located in the rice fields. Enjoy this breathtaking view of the rice fields and the Gunung Leuser mountains in the background. Adijah and Panji will then welcome you into their kitchen, where they will give you all the tips to prepare yummy traditional dishes. You will learn how to use Sumatran spices and herbs. You will cook 2 kind of starters to choose between the following list : tempeh goreng (fried tempeh), pinsang goreng (banana fritters), spring rolls, bakwan (vegetable fritters). You will also cook 2 traditional main meals to choose between a large selection : curry, sambal, rendang, semur, asam manis, gado gado, sate, nasi/mie goreng. Veggie options will be proposed!
We aim to make you discover all the tastes of the traditional Indonesian cuisine! The local cooks will assist you and share with you their cooking experience.
Once your meal is ready, enjoy it all together on the terrace! You’ll also receive the recipes of the meals you cooked by PDF.
You will be back to your guesthouse around 1 or 2 pm.
